Educators Guides on Water

Project WET’s Conserve Water Educators Guide

Educator Guides

Project WET has worked with diverse agencies and organizations to produce educators guides. The audience for these guides include:

The Discover a Watershed series is a broad-based watershed education program of Project WET. These books focus on specific regional watersheds:

  • Discover a Watershed: The Everglades.
  • Discover a Watershed: The Rio Grande/Rio Bravo (also in Spanish).
  • Discover a Watershed: The Colorado (also in Spanish).
  • Discover a Watershed: The Missouri.
  • Discover a Watershed: Watershed Manager.

The series is a comprehensive program, including:

  • building connections throughout watersheds.
  • involving diverse stakeholders within the watershed throughout the process, from research and writing to training and implementation.
  • connecting educators with water resources management agencies and leaders.
  • investigating watersheds regardless of political boundaries.
  • linking educators and students within and among watersheds.

Other Educator Guides focus on specific water resource topics. Although there is some variation, they generally include a reference section and 15 to 30 classroom activities, some with case studies.  Titles include:

  • Healthy Water, Healthy People, Water Quality Educators Guide.
  • Healthy Water, Healthy People, Field Monitoring Guide.
  • Conserve Water Educators Guide.
  • Arizona Conserve Water Educators Guide (Arizona-specific adaptation of the original Water Educators Guide).
  • WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands.
  • Water and Education, General Guide for Teachers of Latin America and the Caribbean (also in Spanish).

Although state and country Project WET program coordinators frequently offer training workshops associated with these guides, you can obtain these publications without attending a workshop.

Many of these guides can be paired with KIDs (Kids in Discovery series) student activity booklets to reinforce classroom activities.
